  Working Hours: around 40 hours per week, usually over 5 days in 7 up to 5½ days in 7, with more hours possible in the summer season The candidate must be able to read and write confidently in English and speak well enough to communicate with fellow employees and customers. The work will include assisting in the kitchen when necessary, being responsible for counting and bagging up linen for collection, keeping the rooms clean including toilets etc. They will also be required to do other duties such as bar & restaurant service, front of building cleaning and anything else clients can find for them to do (general hotel work). They will need to have a good personality, able to get on with people, helpful and a good sense of humour will help.

  Hotel is a picturesque, family run Highland Inn on the shores of the Sound of Islay, overlooking the pier at which daily car ferries berth on arrival from the Scottish mainland. Due to its proximity to the ferry, it offers easy access to Jura, Colonsay and the mainland. Famous for its numerous whisky distilleries, Islay is a beautiful island with a dozen beaches, several historical sites and not too many tourists. On a clear day you can see over to Ireland. Leisure facilities include a swimming pool in Bowmore, tennis courts in Port Ellen, a golf course at Machrie and diving around some of the many local wrecks. By the way, Islay is pronounced 'eye • la' (you don't sound the letter y). The human population of the island is around 3400. It is estimated that the island is also home to over 60,000 geese! The ferry from Kennacraig takes 2 hours and the embarkation point is approximately 100 miles (160 kms) north • west of Glasgow and is reached by a regular bus service from Glasgow. This job will suit someone who loves living in wonderful nature and scenery and not someone who likes big town or city life.
